Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust
Work experience at MSEFT is an excellent opportunity to experience what it is like to work in the NHS in an environment that you may not have been involved in before. You will be supervised by experienced members of our team who are specialists in the area you are visiting and having the opportunity to observe our fabulous staff in their working environment could help you decide which career pathway you may wish to take in the future.
Experiences are available within Clinical, Non-Clinical and Medical teams across all of our Trust sites (Basildon, Broomfield, Southend, Orsett & Braintree) Age restrictions apply in certain areas and placements can vary in duration from a few days to two weeks.

Work experience will be back up and running in August 2022, applications are now being accepted. ESNEFT offer set Work Experience placements in the areas listed below which reoccur every month.

Ward Placement Available at Colchester |
5 days Mon-Fri |
Applicant will experience the ward environment as a whole and shadow a range of different professionals (healthcare assistant, nurse, doctor, therapy teams, ward clark – to name just a few!) |
Ophthalmology Available at Colchester |
5 days Mon-Fri (first & last week of the month) |
Applicants will shadow various members of the multi-disciplinary team and understand what each role entails. Observe patient assessments, diagnostics, care and the implementation of treatment plans |
Allied Health Care Available at Colchester |
5 days Mon-Fri (first week of each month) |
Applicants will shadow within the Physiotherapy department, Occupational Therapy department and within Dietetics. Ideal for those with an interest in AHP professions but uncertain on which specific area |
Physiotherapy Available at Colchester |
2 days Wed-Thurs |
Applicants will gain an understanding of the Physiotherapy role by shadowing Physiotherapists and Specialist Physiotherapy Assistants. Opportunity to observe 1:1 assessments and treatment sessions – a specific timetable will be created for each applicant |
Cardio-Respiratory Diagnostics Available at CDC in Clacton |
1 day Mon or Wed (2nd week of each month) |
Applicants will shadow a range of different professionals and be allocated to various areas throughout the day within the Cardio-Respiratory Clinic. The clinic environment changes day-to-day therefore each individual experience will differ |
