Post 16 Enrichment Programme brings Academy Ambassadors into the classroom at South Essex College – Thurrock Campus!

On Tuesday 29th April 2025, Health & Care Academy Manager Kate Merritt spent the afternoon at South Essex College’s Thurrock Campus with two fantastic Academy Ambassadors as part of the Post 16 Enrichment Programme run in collaboration with the colleges and sixth form settings in mid and south Essex to widen participation and access to information and advice around careers in the NHS and Social Care.

As part of the event, Kate spent time speaking to students who are part of Heath & Social Care programmes at the college providing information about upcoming events and activities that young people can access to find our more about careers in healthcare.

Academy Ambassador Olu, an Adult Nurse and Pre-Registration and Preceptorship Manager then spoke to the students in depth about her personal career journey and how she because a nurse before engaging the attendees by sharing a patient case study so that students could follow a patient journey from admittance to discharge and better understand a nurses role in this.

Following Olu’s engaging presentation, Academy Ambassador Charley then spoke to the students about her role as a Radiotherapy Dosimetrist, detailing her career journey through university and further training and what her role involves. Charley also discussed a case study with the group showcasing the Dosimetrists role in treating cancer and how students can access careers in Radiotherapy.

It was a fascinating and engaging event generating many questions at the end. The Health & Care Academy will continue to engage students this academic year through the Post 16 Enrichment Programme with a number of continuing activities.
