Post 16 Enrichment Programme brings Academy Ambassadors into the classroom at South Essex College – Southend Campus!

On Thursday 1st May 2025, the Health & Care Academy’s Kate Evans spent the afternoon at South Essex College’s Southend Campus with three fantastic Academy Ambassadors as part of the Post 16 Enrichment Programme run in collaboration with colleges and sixth form settings in mid and south Essex to widen participation and access to information and advice around careers in the NHS and Social Care.

As part of the event, Kate spent time speaking to students who are part of Heath & Social Care programmes, providing information about upcoming events and activities that the Academy are holding that young people can access to find our more about careers in healthcare including the fantastic Careers Expo 2025 at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford.

Academy Ambassador Ashley, a Speech and Language Therapist spoke to the students in depth about his career journey and how he became a speech therapist, before engaging the attendees by sharing a patient case study so that students could follow a patient journey in depth.

Academy Ambassador Lucy then spoke to the students about her role as an Occupational Therapist, detailing her career journey and what her role involves. Lucy also discussed a case study with the group showcasing the impact occupational therapy has on a patient.

Finally Valeria addressed the group about their role in Therapeutic Radiography and how they work with cancer patients to deliver treatment that is required to aid recovery.

The Health & Care Academy will continue to engage students this academic year through the Post 16 Enrichment Programme with a number of continuing activities.
