Young people across Mid and South Essex will have another chance to explore exciting careers in healthcare this February half term, as the Health & Care Academy are offering a a new round of Medical Mavericks Skills Lab workshops.
Following the success of previous fully booked sessions, the Academy will be offering a further 4 hands on workshops on 17th and 18th February 2026 designed to inspire the next generation of health and care professionals.
These interactive sessions are available to students in Years 10-13 and give the opportunity to use real medical equipment, discover a wide range of NHS careers, and gain valuable experience to support future college, university, or apprenticeship applications.
Hands‑On Healthcare Experience
The Skills Lab workshops, delivered in partnership with Medical Mavericks, allow participants to:
- Take blood from a fake arm
- Record and analyse their own ECG
- Use an ultrasound machine
- Explore roles across diagnostics, medicine, allied health, and more
- Speak directly with professionals working in the NHS
These sessions are designed to break stereotypes about healthcare careers and highlight the huge variety of roles available beyond traditional pathways.
