Mid and South Essex ICB has been selected as a demonstrator site for a major national NHS recruitment programme — one that’s focused on breaking down barriers and opening doors to rewarding careers in health and social care.
The Health & Care Academy is proud to be working alongside colleagues from Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust’s award-winning Anchor Ambition team to deliver the Widening Access Demonstrator programme.
This initiative is about far more than finding jobs. It’s about tackling long-standing health inequalities and ensuring people from working-class communities have the chance to build meaningful, lasting careers in healthcare.
Backed by government funding, the programme will support those who are often hit hardest by unemployment and exclusion — including young people not in education or training, people living with disabilities or long-term health conditions, and individuals from ethnic minority communities across Thurrock, Southend and Basildon.
For local people, this means genuine opportunities with tailored support. Participants will gain essential skills, receive one-to-one help with job applications and interviews, and access funded work opportunities. These stepping stones will lead to a wide variety of careers — from clinical support roles to office-based positions and many other pathways across the NHS.
This is an important milestone in line with the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan — and a proud achievement for Mid and South Essex. By working in partnership, we can continue to remove barriers, widen access, and make health and social care careers truly inclusive for everyone in our communities.
