We have opportunities for both retention and employment specialists to work as part of a Primary Care Network, or PCN (a cluster of GP practices).

What is an employment retention specialist in Primary Care?

A retention specialist is someone who supports individuals with mental and/or physical health support needs throughout their employment journey, ensuring that they are able to sustain a job that they enjoy doing.

They work in partnership with the PCN team, and champion the belief that people with mental and/or physical support needs want to and can work with the right support. They maintain good relationships with individual service users to empower them and promote retention in their employment.

What is an employment specialist in Primary Care?

An employment specialist is someone who supports individuals with mental and/or physical health support needs into sustainable paid employment which is focused on their skills, strengths and preferences, and changes their life for the better.

They work to ensure a smooth and positive employment experience, while developing good relationships between local employers, the PCN team and clients. They use the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach to give person-centred advice and guidance throughout the hiring process.

Becoming an employment specialist is a great NHS career-starting opportunity.
