Soils are essential to life, yet a third of soil on Earth is severely degraded. Healthy soils play a crucial role in ecosystem services, including food production and carbon sequestration of greenhouse gases. In this interactive workshop, we will explore the importance of soil health maintaining these services, and most importantly, how microbes contribute to soil formation in bare landscapes by accessing atmospheric trace gases.

You are invited to actively shape the outcome of the scenario or simply observe. There will also be an opportunity at the end to ask any questions you have about environmental microbiology and trace-gas oxidation.

Suitable for: Aged 16+ pre-university students studying, or with a possible interest in studying, Biology, Environmental Science and related disciplines.
